Finger Lakes Cheese Trail rebrands, shifts focus from farms to cheese

Finger Lakes Cheese Trail rebrands, shifts focus from farms to cheese: The Finger Lakes Cheese Trail announced Tuesday that as of Jan. 1, it has evolved into the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance.

Along with the name change is a new focus. Since its 2010 inception, the trail focused on the Finger Lakes farms that make the cheese. The focus of the alliance will instead be the cheese itself.

"The word 'trail' gave the impression to the consumer that we were like the wine/beer trails, where we were all open every day and 'wanted' visitors on our farms — which is not always the case, especially with some of our smaller producers," said Carmella Hoffman, of Sunset View Creamery in Odessa, in a news release. "This change will open the alliance to a new way of promoting artisanal cheese. It will become about continual access to our cheeses, not limited by our farms' hours."

Could coastal desalination efforts help farmers? | Farm Press Blog

Could coastal desalination efforts help farmers? | Farm Press Blog: While San Diego could soon lose its NFL franchise, the county can at least boast the nation’s largest desalination plant in marketing literature.

San Diego’s popularity as a destination location is obvious to those of us who’ve been there and witnessed near-perfect weather, regardless of the date on the calendar. I suspect losing its NFL franchise may make some waves, but at least it happened in a year where the football team went 4-12 and arguably has some rebuilding of its own to do.

When it comes to water for a thirsty state, desalination has long been argued as a way to help California, though the process is said to be costly and energy intensive.
