Eye on Agriculture: Planning for a Down Year - KXNet.com - Bismarck/Minot/Williston/Dickinson-KXNEWS,ND: The annual Ag Expo at the North Dakota State Fair Center is a chance for farmers and ranchers to make plans for the upcoming season.
This year, much of the conversation has to do with the recently-projected low crop prices -- and what farmers can do to avoid taking too big of a hit.
Tim Olson reports in this week's Eye on Agriculture.
(Jeff Moen, Farms Near Foxholm) "We've had tough sledding before. Like I told my guy at the bank, 'I'm used to it, not that I like it.'"
"Tough sledding" for farmers used to growing crops like wheat and corn.
Projections from the NDSU Extension Service are predicting negative returns on typically-dependable crops in the region.
So farmer like Jeff Moen are using this week's Ag Expo as an opportunity to plan ahead.
(Moen) "Any way you can increase revenue and decrease expenses, but decreasing expenses is pretty hard to do."
