Stocks crash to push more China cash into global real estate | Business - Home

Stocks crash to push more China cash into global real estate | Business - Home: A wall of Chinese money is heading for global real estate as local investors look for alternatives to the country's crashing stock markets.

Chinese buyers have already spent billions in the U.S., UK and Australia, causing property prices to rise -- and experts say much more cash is on its way.

The latest triggers: Chinese stocks have crashed 40% since June, wiping away trillions of dollars in market value; and Beijing surprised investors by allowing the yuan -- or renminbi -- to fall sharply last month.

Oil headed for $20

From USA TODAY

Oil could plunge to $20 in doomsday scenario

Oil could plunge as low as $20 a barrel amid a glut of production around the world, Goldman Sachs analysts said Friday in a new report. That's a level not seen in more than a decade. "Although oil prices have revisited the lows of last winter, this time both financial and fundamental metrics are much weaker," Goldman said in the report. "Forward demand expectations are lower as the emerging market economic outlook continues to deteriorate." To be sure, Goldman is not projecting a drop to $20 — a worst-case scenario, it would be fleeting if it's reached. Goldman's official projection for 2016 WTI prices is $45, down from a previous forecast of $57. Goldman's 2017 forecast stayed at $60.

Sid Salter: Remembering a genius from Mississippi | More Opinions | The Sun Herald

Sid Salter: Remembering a genius from Mississippi | More Opinions | The Sun Herald: James Loton Flanagan died in recent days one day shy of his 90th birthday. Unless you've lived in a cave without electronic communications for the last 30 years, Flanagan impacted your life. He was from Greenwood, Mississippi, where he was born on his family's cotton farm

Flanagan, in great measure, is the genius responsible for making computers "talk." And that's a very simplistic description of the work of an absolutely brilliant Mississippi mind.

Ever heard automated, computer-generated "voices" on corporate help lines? Had a conversation with your smartphone -- Siri or otherwise? Wonder where the voice comes from on your GPS device?

LSU vs. Mississippi State game breakdown | NOLA.com

LSU vs. Mississippi State game breakdown | NOLA.com: LSU is 10-0 in season openers under Les Miles. Getting to 11-0 got a little tougher.

It should have come last week with a cursory victory over FCS power McNeese State, but with that game cancelled by weather, LSU has to try to keep the record intact and get rolling amidst the sound of cowbells.

LSU has done well in Starkville, winning the last seven times. The Tigers have won 14 of 15 and 21 of 23 from State overall. But having to go without the benefit of that warm-up game means the Tigers have less room for error.
