Mississippi Day to fill Albany's Lincoln Park with Southern food, music
Here's what's cooking for Saturday's fourth annual Mississippi Day in Lincoln Park: 100 pounds of pulled pork, 10 cases of ribs, 10 cases of chicken, 12 cases of collard greens, 50 large pans of cornbread and big pots of black-eyed peas, ham hocks and chitlins.
It's a feast of Southern food, and it's all free.
Organizers from the grass-roots South End neighborhood organization, AVillage, whose leaders are natives of Mississippi, are prepared to feed 1,000 people.
They've enlisted a team of folks skilled in Southern cooking and 150 student volunteers who will help with food preparation from the University at Albany, The College of Saint Rose and Siena College.
